Pets.

April 26th, 2006 at 10:42 am

I have children, 4 boys to be exact, add one grandchild but I spent money yesterday and it wasn't for anything human. I went to the store last night after my meeting, missing American Idol (the only tv show I was watching during "No TV WEEK" to get 4 pet rats, food and bedding. I was trying to use newpaper for bedding but very stinky. My two kids at home wanted the pet rats but then found them too much trouble. If we give them away, they'd be snake food. Rats do have little personalities and I could not see them being snake food even though it's it the grand life cycle. I faithfully clean and feed these critters to save they're little lives. I realize it's for my peace of mind. Rats live to 2-21/2 years...we have one year left for them to have a natural passing. How many families have pets for the children, to learn responsiblity only to have the Mom, parents do all the work?

LOL! We have 2 boys, ages 10 and 13, and guess who does the feeding, watering, and cleaning out the cat litter boxes?

Our 6 y/o DD feeds our dog every night - but we have to remind her just about every night. Wink Then again, we had him before we had her, so it isn't as if she asked us for a pet.

I feed the Sea Monkeys, lol! Yes, we have 5 or 6 live Sea Monkeys - they're funny little things to watch. I'm kind of attached to them now. Embarrassment

Ale (6) has to feed Fiona (our dog) and the fish (all 19 of them!) every morning....I have to remind her to do it....I bathe Fiona every week, but, occasionally, Ale helps out...

We don't have pets anymore. It sure is cheaper, but an animal really brings something to your life that makes it a little more special. My son and I are allergic to cats (my pet of choice), my daughter has a phobia about dogs after being bitten and scratched badly by a neighbor dog running loose when she was 2 or 3, and the kids kill every fish we ever had by over feeding or ignoring them, so no more pets here. But, the neighborhood cats all come by to say hello and roll in my catnip patch, and stay for some petting, before going home, so I do get a little kitty fix every day without the expense.
