Want or need?

January 13th, 2008 at 07:01 pm

That is the question. I have decided that this will be my mantra for the year and will only buy if I NEED it. So far it's been saving me a lot of money. I never realize how much I buy because I just want it.

I use to do that too, but I don't do it anymore!

It's alao a good way of keeping you from buying items that will only add to your clutter. I'm thinking twice as well and have been known to return something.

My mother used to tell me this:

Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.

This was generally preceded by a discussion of wants vs. needs where she reminded me that NEEDS are first, WANTS are last.

I forgot that for years but have kept it in mind daily for the last couple of years. Recently, she was telling me about a minor financial issue she had and I shot it at her. She asked me, "Where did you hear that?" I told her and she said, "Hmm, I don't remember saying that. I guess I need to say it and do it!" lol Moms. Smile
